The first-ever election awareness campaign of the Amateur Media Association of Philippine Scouts (AMAPS) concluded Sunday, August 8, with the participation of more than 200 Scouts from all around the Philippines.
PinasALAMIN: Unravelling the Influence of Powell-ful voters was spearheaded by Venturer Scout Bianca Mae Elpedes, AMAPS Vice President for Sustainability; and Eagle Scout Win Sharm Cinco, AMAPS Secretary.
The said event kicked off with a message from Venturer Scout Lian Jan B. Santos, Regional Scout Representative for Mindanao, followed by an inspirational message from the guest speaker, Kabataan Partylist Representative Hon. Sarah Jane I. Elago.
“The number of young voters puts us in a very powerful position to shape the current political landscape”, Hon. Elago said.
The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) National President, Hon. Dale B. Corvera also graced the event through his message.
“I commend the Amateur Media Association of Philippine Scouts, for your PinasALAMIN project and for your efforts of informing the youth about their potential in making the world a better place to be,” Hon. Corvera said.
The two-day virtual conference was composed of four (4) sessions that focused on: “Role of the Youth for Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful, Peaceful Election” by Dominique Doarte S. Gapayao—Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) Member and AMAPS Executive Director; “How important is it for the youth to exercise their right to suffrage?” by Mr. Leo L. Lim—Commission on Election (COMELEC) Information Officer V; “What characteristics of a candidate should we look for?” by Ms. Abegail Kyla Bilan—Rappler, MovePH Core Mover; and “Reflection: The Voting Power of Powell-ful Voters” by Mr. Cedrick G. Train—BSP Chief National Commissioner—and Mr. Marvin A. Segura—Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines (TOBSP) Vice President.
“PinasALAMIN: The Conversation” served as the socials night, along with the awarding of certificates and the closing remarks by Mr. Jan Khim Gamora, AMAPS Scouting Affairs. It was hosted by Eagle Scout Win Sharm Cinco, and Outdoorsman Scouts Samantha Jauco and Shelou Garcia.
